“full_text”: “Continued From Page 1\nAccording to Rzeszutek, the\nonly items shipped from the\nChemical were \”slabs of re-\nclaim\”, slabs of rubber re-\nclaimed from old tires and\nother rubber items.\n\”What are they going to do\nwith slabs of reclaim, drop them\nfrom airplanes and smother the\nViet Cong?\” he asked.\nRzeszutek, a veteran of com-\nbat who \”had been shot up a few\ntimes\” himself, resented the\nimplication that he and his union\nwere unpatriotic. He said he\ncould not guarantee that not one\nthing had been shipped from the\nChemical plant to Vietnam.\nManagement lawyer, Atty. J.\nKenneth Bradley, said Friday\nthat the production was \”par-\ntially\” for the defense effort,\nand partially \”for use in other\nparts of the country.\” The only\nadditional information he would\ngive was that the items \”are not\nfor use by ourselves.\”\nA company official was quot-\ned Thursday as saying the oper-\nation of plant by management\npersonnel was for the produc-\ntion of some key items neces-\nsary for the Vietnam defense\neffort.\nIn asking for an end to picket\nline difficulties, Gaffney sym-\npathized with the union mem-\nbers who felt that \”someone is\ndestroying…the right to live\nand work.\” \”I trust we will\nnever have a hearing\”, the judge\nsaid, adding that he hoped he\nwould not be forced to issue\nan injunction against the union.\nJudge Gaffney on May 6 issued\na show cause order against\nLocal 45 of the United Rubber\nWorkers in connection with\npicketing at the Footwear Div-\ision, but a hearing has never\nbeen held. There have been two\ncontinuances and more are ex-\npected as long as the picketing\nremains peaceful.\nThe judge said he hoped the\nissuance of a show cause order\nwill have the same effect at the\nChemical plant.\nThe United Rubber Workers\nhave been on strike for five-\nweeks. Negotiations on the mas-\nter contract, being held in Cin-\ncinnati, Ohio, recessed Friday\nuntil Wednesday.”
